The "Orobie forgotten ". Here is the name which in the mid 80s and Miotti Gogna (1) chose for the group Scais - Redorta. What strange, since the region was once the favorite haunt of the 'pioneers of mountaineering, "he saw in the unexplored peaks quell'alpinismo valtellinesi a goal of undisputed prestige. Even the Prince Scipione Borghese, who won the Paris-Beijing raid Italy, wanted to reach the tip and the Scais Redorta. He did it Sept. 24, 1896, accompanied by the strong leadership of John Agnedo Andrea Bonomi. At the beginning
900 Bruno Galli Valerio reported, moreover, the abundance of cows and goats in the pastures of Caronno, the same pasture on which you are settling tales of devils and bears the same Galli Valerio heard the evening before the hearths and Scais Agnedo. In Cols et Sommets were transcribed and saved some of these gems of our oral tradition that otherwise would have been irretrievably lost.
Even in the sixties "Guide to the Mountains of Italy" exalted the tip Scais as "Second repute Orobie peak of the Alps." Second perhaps only to elevation, such as asprità , instead, it is beyond doubt the first place. On top of offering an almost surreal landscape, gorges on rock and ice, jagged peaks and colorful, channels very deep and sharp edges.
The tip channels Scais and climb the slope SO seen from near the back of a mule. The first ascent to the tip Scais was completed by the guide Antonio Baroni and three of his customers July 3, 1881. On July 12, 1894 there was the historic ascent of John Bonomi Bruno Galli-Valerio along with the channel to channel then called Bonomi.
But in the last thirty years the scenario has changed radically. Climbers and pastors have vanished like the snow-capped Scais underwater, Agnedo deserted for most of the year and decorated with horrible dishes.
"Those who decide to leave the main street shortly after Sondrio to take the side of roads and paths orobico, writes Claudio Lugaresi, really find another "planet" that will not easily forget. The roads are unpaved and often with narrow paths, and rushed away tourists eager to reach the most famous and accessible and the roads leading to the heads of the valleys they stop just above 1000 meters, sometimes even earlier. The steepness of the slopes and exposed areas to the north has prevented development of a strong man; the only human works are massive dams and water intakes of Falck, that some decades ago began using the hydroelectric exploitation of the area, for the construction of his works, an ingenious system of tunnels and trains still operating. This has saved the area from elsewhere havoc caused by the opening of rail vehicles at high altitude, of which the road is now impassable, which reached the uranium mine in Val Vedella is a clear example. "
The men, moreover, have lost their spirit of adventure and sacrifice, preferring to adapt nature to their needs rather than adjust their behavior to nature. Up here in the valleys of Piateda, and especially on the slopes of the Punta Scais survives a mountain of other times, poor services and infrastructure, unique and great for fans of the genre, oasis away from tourism and modern lifestyles that have contaminated the Valtellina.
